He said that it’s of great importance to promote such philos

philosophies to enhance the exchanges and mutual learning of diverse civilizations.

Frederick W. Russell-Rivoallan, a program specialist and head of social and human sciences for UNESCO, hailed the dialogue of Asian civilizations.

“It’s a great way to concentrate in this part of world, but it’s also

a global inspiration – bringing countries together, understanding other cultures, respecting each

other and sharing with each other,” he said. “That’s the way that we can understand each other better and live together better.”

China will extend 1,000-Megabyte broadband connection to more than 300 cities and cut the

average service rates by 15 percent for small and midsized enterprises this year. The measures are desi

gned to achieve multiplying effects of expanding domestic demand, boosting employment and improving people’s lives.

The decision was made at the State Council’s executive meeting chaired by Premier Li Keqiang on May 14.

Often these pictures do not represent how these indivi

duals look in real life without the posing, the filters, the photoshopping and the professional hair and make-up,” Martz said.

Pan, the Renmin University researcher, also believes that pi

ctures shared frequently on social media impose peer pressure on women.

“If people around you look thin on WeChat Moments, you are inevi

tably anxious to fit the general profile of having the ‘right look’,” she said.

Articles have also gone viral in summer on WeChat Moments, with sensational headlines such as “Good-looking girls never

weigh more than 50 kilograms” or “If you don’t lose weight in May, you will cry out loud in June”.

Shen Zijiao, a psychological consultant at Beijing Normal University, said: “Women don’t know what kind of beauty is best for th

em; they just thumb through their phone screens and get the notions of ‘being slender’ consciously or uncons

ciously. They always worry if their bodies are inconsistent with the so-called perfect body shape.”

No quick fix for decades-old Israeli-Palestinian enmity

Concern over the recent escalation of tensions between Palestinians and Israelis have been temporarily relieved after Palestin

ian leaders in Gaza agreed a cease-fire with Israel early on Monday. Right now, nothing is more important than u

pholding the cease-fire as the atmosphere between the two rivals has not been so combustible since 2014.

Since Friday, militant groups in Gaza have fired more than 600 rockets a

nd other projectiles at southern Israeli cities and villages, killing four Israeli civilians, wit

h Israel retaliating with air and artillery strikes, killing 27 people, including 14 civilians, in Gaza.

The latest border clashes, the most deadly since 2014, have occurred against the backdrop of the changing Middle East po

licy of the United States, which has seen the US drop any pretense of impartiality and make clear its support of Israel.

A leak that may have come from the Australian Secu

Worst example of anti-China prejudice

One of the worst examples of anti-China prejudices comes from a bo

Besides the successful capture of the first black

k hole image, two earlier detections of gravitational waves from

black hole mergers also were products of international collaboration.

In February 2016, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory in the United States announ

ced the first observation of gravitational waves generated by a black hole merger. The following June, it annou

nced the second detection of a gravitational wave event from colliding black holes.

Wu said Tianqin has potential for even greater discoveries.

“LIGO used interferometers on the ground with an arm length of 4 km. But with satellites, the arm length will increas

e to 170,000 km. So the space-based probes (enabled by Tianqin) will be able to detect gravitational waves at much l

ower frequencies generated by the merging of massive or supermassive black holes,” he said.

“It will also enable us to see the smaller black holes during the infancy of the universe, as w

ell as understand the history of black hole growth and the evolution of galaxies,” he said

The 142-km Jakarta-Bandung high-speed railway, connec

cting the Indonesian capital Jakarta with Bandung, is now under construction, after China and

Indonesia signed an agreement in October 2015 to establish a joint venture to build and operate it.

As a part of the Belt and Road Initiative projects in Indonesia, the high-speed railway is th

e first to use China’s high-speed railway standards, technologies and equipment on a foreign line.

It being constructed and operated by a China-Indonesia consortium of firms led by China Railway Corp an

d Indonesian state-owned PT Wijaya Karya Tbk, and is to be funded mainly by loans from China Development Bank.

The high-speed rail, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, will have a maximum design speed

of 350 km/h and is capable of transport passengers and goods within 45 minutes between Jakarta and Bandung.
